Evaluation of ergonomic criteria to categorise use problems induced by complexity phenomenon

2018
The complexity level of the interactive environments enhances since the beginning of the digital revolution. This phenomenon is linked to the systems interconnections handling more and more varied functions and automation levels. Faced with this complexity, the users are often becoming destitute. An ergonomic approach of these systems should allow users to use them more effectively and thus to conceive simplex systems. The methods in ergonomics shall evolve to integrate complexity dimensions to better guide the analyst in his evaluation of such systems. In this context, we have developed a list of ergonomic criteria for Human Simplex Systems Interactions (HSSI). This article presents the results of the performance assessment of these criteria to perform a categorisation task of utilisation problems driven by complex phenomenon. This study forms an iteration of a validation process of these criteria in the aeronautical field. 20 human factors specialists have participated to an assignment task of problems. The results highlights that the criteria allow to perform a categorisation of problems sufficiently precise and homogeneous to encourage us to pursue the maturation process of this diagnosis method dedicated to simplex system.
