Planning and Development at Ulan to Increase Underground Production from 600,000 TPA to 3,000,000 TPA

Ulan Coal Mines Limited is currently producing 600 K.T.P.A. from the Ulan No.2 Colliery. A new underground colliery with a production capacity of 3 M.T.P.A. is now under development. This paper reviews the planning and development work underway; current and proposed future mining methods; geological investigations to determine the mining conditions likely to be encountered in the new mine and the research program being undertaken to determine the feasibility of multi slice longwalling in the 10m thick Ulan seam.
