Volumetric properties of stoichiometric K+ and Br- ion mixtures in CH3OH, CD3OH, and CH3OD at various temperatures
2004
The densities of KBr solutions in H/D methanol isotopomers (CH 3 OH, CD 3 OH, and CH 3 OD) were measured with an error of ′1.2 x 10 - 5 g/cm 3 from 278.15 to 318.15 in 10 K steps for the salt mole fractions x 2 ≤ 3.8 x 10 - 3 on a precision magnetic-float densimeter. The limiting partial and excess molar volumes of the electrolyte in the alcohols studied were calculated using a rational procedure. The solvation of a stoichiometric K + + Br - ion mixture in methanol is controlled by structural changes that are mostly caused by the specific interactions between bromide ions and alcohol molecules with the possible formation of hydrogen bonds.
