Dynamic recrystallization mechanisms during high speed rolling of Mg–3Al–1Zn alloy sheets

2016
Abstract A high reduction of more than 70% was achieved at a rolling speed of 100 m/min in magnesium AZ31 alloy (Mg–3 wt.%Al–1 wt.%Zn) sheets at 100 °C. Dynamic recrystallization (DRX) was found at the reductions of 37% and higher. The dominant mechanism was twins/shear bands related dynamic recrystallization, which led to a unique partially recrystallized and twinned microstructure. In the untwinned/less twinned grains, continuous and discontinuous recrystallization mechanisms were also involved at higher reductions as the temperature increased.
