Cerebrovascular insult, incidence in the municipality Arilje in 2014, risk factors and consequences

The Cerebrovascular Insult is a focal disorder of the brain function with a sudden development which results from a pathological process of vascular origin. The aim of this paper is to explore the risk factors, therapeutic facilities, mortality and invalidity rate of the Cerebrovascular Insult. The investigation has been carried out within a group of 40 patients who were under investigation within the framework of the first aid service of the health center in Arilje and were transferred to the department of neurology in the general hospital in Uzice with the diagnosis of the Cerebrovascular Insult in the period from the 01.01.2014 and 31.12.2014. The data was obtained retrogradely from the protocol of the first aid service and the health card from the health center in Arilje. The basis of information was generated using the statistical package SPSS­U20. The X2 test and frequencies were applied to the statistical analysis. The results were presented in tabular form and demonstrate that all the patients belong to the age group of over 55 years, under which 15 are male and 25 are female. Hypertension has been treated for all of them (100%), for 10 patients Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus (25%), for 10 patients Hypertension and Atrial Fibrillation (25%), and 2 patients were affected by all three illnesses (5%). 13 patients (32,5%) died until the end of the year, only 5 patients (12,5%) survived without severe motorical impairment, and 22 patients (55%) with severe degree of disability.
