Preparation of TiO2/fly-ash cenospheres photocatalyst and its application of methylene blue degradation combining with the ultrasonic treatment

2008
The floating photocatalyst of TiO2/fly-ash cenospheres was prepared by sol-gel method and calcined at different temperatures (from 573K to 973K). The photocatalytic activity of TiO2/fly-ash cenospheres was investigated for photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue under ultrasonic-photocatalysis. It was found that the photocatalytic activity of TiO2/fly-ash cenospheres photocatalyst was higher when calcined at 773K than the samples calcined at other temperatures. Under the experimental conditions of 0.05g, TiO2/fly-ash cenospheres, ultrasonic and light irradiation, the photodegradation rate of 5 mg&47;L methylene blue can reach up to 92.09% in ten minutes and near 100% in 30 minutes. In addition, the photodegradation rate of the catalyst used second recycle can reach over 90% in 30 minutes, indicating that it still shows good degradation effect.
