Contraceptive research [letter].

1981
Letter in response to an earlier article on prospects for improved contraception. The author points out reasons for his pessimism with regard to the participation of the pharmaceutical industry in developing new contraceptive agents. Current industry involvement is principally with prostaglandins and LHRH agents which may have applications other that contraceptive ones of more potential interest to the industry. The 1 company active in research on the contraceptive applications of LHRH has received a major grant from the government underscoring the need for increased interaction between the private and public sectors on contraceptive research. The author further emphasizes the need for major operational and policy changes which will do more to stimulate investment and productivity in this area than simply increasing the monies available.
