Research status in interventional therapy for acute pulmonary embolism

2013
Current guidline recommends intravenous thrombolysis for patients with critical massive pulmonary embolism. However, whether thrombolysis drugs are effective, its contraindications and complications block the clinical application of this scheme.Recently, with rapid progress of interventional materials and technology, types of catheters have been developed, interventional therapy is used for acute pulmonary embolism. Therefore, emergent catheter-based intervention may substitute for thrombolysis when fibrinolysis and anticoagulation is difficult to be carried out. This article mainly reviews advantages and disadvantages of various interventional projects, and there are issues to be resolved. Key words: Pulmonary embolism; Interventional therapy; Local thrombolysis
