A CREATE Shadow-Ops Perspective of TURBO and Overflow 2 Application to Two Axial Flow Compressors

2011
The Computational Research and Engineering for Acquisition Tools and Environments Air Vehicles (CREATE-AV) Shadow-Ops program sponsored an Advanced Compression Systems effort in support of the CREATE-AV Airframe/Propulsion Integration (API) software product. The Shadow-Ops effort objectives were to demonstrate the state-of-the-art in air vehicle compression system modeling using legacy software and to develop benchmark test cases for the CREATE-AV API software product. The two codes used in this effort were versions of the TURBO and OVERFLOW 2 Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) codes. Two research multiple blade row compression systems were modeled using the legacy CFD codes. The predicted overall compression system performance was compared to experimental data. The Shadow-Ops effort produced significant findings relevant to the CREATE-AV API development effort.
