Transcutaneous Pacing for Therapy of Life-Threatening Bradycardia in Diabetic Patients with a Heart Disease - A Report of Two Cases

2007
The authors report on two cases of preclinical transcutaneous pacing for therapy of life-threatening bradycardia subsequent to hyperkalemia in diabetic patients. An acute coronary syndrome could be ruled out on the basis of either coronary angiographic or laboratory findings. Both patients were released without neurological sequelae. The authors discuss the preclinical management with special emphasis on the therapy of life-threatening bradycardia. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options are discribed.
