INVESTIGATION ON THE USE OF PSYCHOACTIVE SUBSTANCE AMONG PRIMARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS IN HANGZHOU

Objective:To understand the status of psychoactive substance use among primary and middle school students from Hangzhou,and to provide evidence for developing effective prevention strategies on psychoactive substance use.Methods:Standardized sample selection process of cluster-sampling was used in 2255 students chosen randomly from primary and middle school in Hangzhou.Results:2145 valid questionnaires were returned,the efficient rate was 95.1%。Among 2145 students from primary and middle school in Hangzhou,13.9% used tobacco while 58.8% drank alcohol;4.7% and 47.6%,respectively tried using tobacco or drinking before they were 13 years old;1.5%(33 students)used sedative hypnotics;1.1%(23 students)used amphetamine-type stimulants or volatile solvent and narcotics;6 students experienced at least two drugs mentioned above.Conclusion:There exist psychoactive substance abuse among primary and middle school students in Hangzhou,which calls public attention.We suggest that necessary prevention and intervention be implemented among students according to their age and gender.
