Array of balanced antipodal Vivaldi antennas used for microwave hypertermia treatment of neck cancer

2014
In this paper, we are using a numerical model of an ultra wideband balanced antipodal Vivaldi antenna for human tissue heating purposes. This antenna was primary developed for microwave imaging. Firstly, specific absorption rate (SAR) caused by irradiated electromagnetic wave from this single antenna at frequency 915 MHz is evaluated, secondly these eight antennas are arranged in the circle around the numerical human neck phantom and there are investigated the focusing abilities (optimization of electromagnetic field) of this configuration on a larynx tumour. Optimized SAR distribution is then considered as a heat source and a thermal simulation solving steady state Penne's equation is performed. All these numerical simulations were computed using the SEMCAD X.
