Characterization of interface adhesion in fibre-reinforced Zn-Al alloy and Cu-Ni alloy matrix composites by thermal treatment

1991
During thermal treatment of metal matrix composites, internal stresses may reach levels sufficient to cause interface decohesion. In such cases, heat-treated composites contain voids, the amount of which is related to the strength of the interfaces. Illustrations concern studies of (i) the influence of fibre preheating on interface adhesion in squeeze-cast ZA8 matrix composites and (ii) the processing of Cu-Ni/C fibre composites.
