Community Engagement in Biological & Agricultural Engineering

Recent national trends in higher education include a focus on community engagement; many schools have made community engagement and/or service-learning a signature area of focus, though efforts in the area tend to be led by disciplines in the liberal arts. Biological and agricultural engineering has a rich history of service to society and is well positioned to provide focus and leadership in community engagement and service-learning. In this paper, the author will discuss national community engagement issues and will detail the ways in which biological and agricultural engineering can contribute to the pressing problems currently facing our society.
