The influence of nitrogen on the devitrification behaviour of a LAS glass studied by differential thermal analysis

A comparative DTA study of the devitrification of two LAS glass compositions has been performed. The introduction of nitrogen in the anionic network enhances many physical properties of the Li 0.6 Al 0.1 Si 0.6 O 1.65 base oxide glass. However no systematic investigations, relating the crystallization behaviour of oxynitride glass compositions, have been carried out. In this paper, the temperature and time dependence of nucleation and the kinetic parameters of the crystal growth have been studied in order to determine the dominant crystallization mechanism and to precise the influence of nitrogen.
