O SETOR INDUSTRIAL BRASILEIRO: DESAFIOS E OPORTUNIDADES

The objective of this paper is to contribute to the debate about industrial policy, as well as to analyze the nuances of the Brazilian manufacturing industry before the world economic scenario. For this, we discuss about the Brazilian industry and the Brazilian industrial policy, the world manufacturing industry and the Brazilian one. Based on the discussions carried out in the study, we noted that the effective Brazilian industrial policy was the Import Substitution Industrialization Process (ISI), despite the criticism, and the others, adopted from 2004, promoted incremental gains. In the world manufacturing industry, the Chinese market represents significant parcel, due to the cost of labor, governmental incentives as well as new practices of management targeted to the external market. The Brazilian manufacturing industry presents loss of competitiveness due to greater costs of production in relation to the new competitors, such as China, as well as because Brazil Cost.
