Bone Tissue Response to Nano-HA-ZrO_2 Compound Bioceramics
2013
Objective: The purpose of the present study was to observe the combination of the interface between nanoHA-ZrO2 compound bioceramics and bone tissue. Methods: 12 healthy adult New Zealand rabbits were used in the study.Nano-HA-ZrO2 compound bioceramics were placed in one side of the mandible. On the other side,HA were placed as control.Animals were sacrificed at 4、8、12 weeks after operation, histological sections and the interface shear strength were evaluated.X-ray examination were also performed to observe the interface between the bone,nano-HA-ZrO2,and HA bioceramics materials. Results: Hard tissue section and X-rays examination showed a good interface osseointegration appeared at 12 weeks in nano-HA-ZrO2ceramic group,as well as in HA group.Fibrous tissue manifested in some areas of the interface.Incomplete osseointegration were shown in the interfaces at those 4-and 8-week animals.Interface shear strength of nano-HA-ZrO2 at 4-,8-,12-weeks was(2.36±1.04),(11.65±1.48) and(30.95±3.67)MPa respectively(P 0.01).While those of HA’s was(2.27±1.12),(12.33±1.57) and(31.05±3.44)MPa respectively(P0.01).Conclusion: This result demonstrates Nano-HA-ZrO2 compound bioceramics can be integrated into bone section. But how to accelerate integrating rate and acquire complete osseointegration as soon as possible, further studies are needed.
