Gain Enhancement of Dual-Band Microstrip - Fed Antenna with complementary split ring resonators and rectangular slots embedded in Patch for Wireless Applications using Metamaterial Cell-Based Superstrate

2021
In this paper, a simple design of dual-band microstrip patch antenna with complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) and rectangular slots are presented with Superstrate. Highly effective and a simple dual band antenna response can be obtained by placing a single CSRR unit cell on the patch of the conventional microstrip patch antenna along with the etching of two rectangular slots. The proposed Antenna has good performance at both the frequencies. The conventional patch initially deigned to operate at 10 GHz is tuned to operate at two resonant frequencies at 9.56 GHz and 19.48 GHz, which can be significantly useful for wireless applications. And the realized gain obtained at 9.56 GHz and 19.48 GHz using high frequency structure simulator (HFSS – 15) simulations are 6.09 dB and 8.49 dB. In this paper CSRR along with two rectangular slots are responsible for second band and superstrate is responsible for enhancing the gain of the antenna. The metamaterial superstrate layer consists of (5 × 5) array of split ring resonators placed on the top of the substrate. The negative effective permeability is due to the nresence of snlit ring resonators.
