Multifactorial regulation of growth hormone

1989
Two sets of data lead us to an in-depth reappraisal of the nature of growth hormone control. The first derives from pharmacological studies which have shown that somatotrophs can be affected by many more neurotransmitters and neuropeptides than only a GH-inhibitory factor (SRIF) and a GH-releasing factor (GHRH), as originally postulated. Even if these are still believed to have a major role in the regulation of the hormone, GH cells can respond to at least six other factors.
