2021
Objective: Regular foot care is the most effective method in preventing diabetic foot. This study was carried out to determine foot care behaviors and related factors in individuals diagnosed with diabetes. Method: Descriptive and correlational study included 520 diabetic individuals who applied to the diabetes outpatient clinic of a university hospital. The data were obtained by using patient diagnosis form and Foot Self Care Observation Guide. Results: When the distribution of the Foot Self Care Observation Guide mean scores of individuals with diabetes was examined, a mean score of 43.16±5.70 was found. It has been determined that the individuals adapted to the "I don't use sharp tools while caring for my feet" behavior at least. It was determined that the individuals who have higher education level, who work, who have good economic situation, who are on diet, and whose HbA1c value is 7% or less, have better foot care behaviors (p<0.05). In addition, it was determined that the level of education and treatment of individuals are the factors that significantly affected the foot care behavior (p<0.01) and these factors explained 7% of the total variance at the foot care behavior level. Conclusion: Foot care behavior of individuals with diabetes is inadequate; It has been determined that the level of education and treatment is an important determinant in applying foot care behaviors. In this regard, since the diagnosis of diabetes is made, it is important to provide individuals with training on foot care and protection in addition to disease management.
