Intervención en dos edificios del canal de Castilla: central hidroeléctrica y molino de las esclusas 22, 23 y 24

El Canal de Castilla fue el sueno ilustrado del siglo XVIII en Espana, la mayor infraestructura espanola de la epoca que, en la actualidad, sin caer en el olvido, pasa casi inadvertida por la geografia castellano-leonesa. En este trabajo se busca la reutilizacion de dos edificios abandonados del canal, los inmediatos a las esclusas 22, 23 y 24, un antiguo molino y una obsoleta central hidroelectrica. Para ello, tras un proceso de informacion sobre el canal, se realizan alzados con identificacion de los materiales de fachada, se localizan en estas vistas las lesiones visibles desde las fotografias realizadas, y se elaboran fichas con los procesos patologicos en detalle. Todo esto con la finalidad de usar el molino, como centro de interpretacion, y la central hidroelectrica para alquiler de barcos turisticos, bicicletas y almacen. El proyecto tiene la intencion de diferenciar la preexistencia de la intervencion, no se pretende conseguir la imagen de lo que en su dia fueron el molino y la central hidroelectrica, que como se vera sufrieron algunas transformaciones. La manifestacion de los materiales antiguos y nuevos es el “leitmotiv” de la propuesta, no se encalan adobe ni tapial, no se laca la madera y se introducen estructuras de acero y vidrio alla donde la ruina no llega. The Canal de Castilla was the most important project of the Age of Enlightenment in Spain during the eighteenth century. It is the biggest Spanish infrastructure of that period, and it goes almost unnoticed through the Castilian-Leonese geography, although it is not completely forgotten. The aim of this paper is to repurpose two of the abandoned buildings placed across this channel: an old mill, and an obsolete hydroelectric power plant, both located near the 22, 23 and 24 locks. To achieve such aim, after studying the history of the channel, materials are pinpointed in the facade, damages are detected and linked to those views and a collection of pathology sheets are created. The object of this analysis is to use the mill as an interpretation centre and the hydroelectric power plant to rent tourist boats, bikes, and storage. The project aims to differentiate the pre-existence and the intervention. Getting the image of the mill and of the hydroelectric power plant is not the aim. The manifestation of the different materials, olds, and news is the ‘leitmotiv’ of the approach. Adobe and rammed earth are not whitewashed, timber is not lacquered, and the new structures are made of Steel and glass.
