CHARACTERISATION OF THE COLD CRACKING BEHAVIOUR OF STEELS DURING WELDING

Experimental results from cold cracking investigations of the last ten years have been subjected to a computer-assisted evaluation, which revealed how the alloying elements most commonly used in structural steels affect their cold cracking behaviour. The carbon equivalent (CET) was formulated for the corresponding relationship and compared with other carbon equivalents. The coupling of the CET carbon equivalent with the minimum preheating temperature enables the latter to be calculated for one-pass root and tack welding.
