Role of diathermy on nerve regeneration in buffalo calves

2010
A study was conducted on eight 6–12 months old experimental male buffalo calves. Under peroneal nerve block and local infiltration anesthesia, axonotmesis (moderate form of nerve injury) of peroneal nerve was induced in all the animals. The animals were divided into two groups of four animals each, group I (control) and group II (diathermy treated). Locomotory evaluations revealed early functional recovery in group II animals. On gross observations less adhesions of nerve with surrounding structures in group II than group I animals were recorded. Histopathological examinations of nerve tissue revealed better nerve regeneration in group II.
