Capacitor coupled transformer-less DC-DC boost converter with large conversion ratios

2015
Voltage multiplier circuits are often used to achieve conversion ratios higher than can be possible with magnetic transformers. The series structure of the most common type of voltage multipliers limit the dynamic performance and line regulation. This paper proposes a novel capacitor coupled DC-DC boost converter operating at high switching frequency that can achieve similar high conversion ratios with better dynamic performance. The topology and operating characteristics of the converter are discussed and the equations that describe the current and voltage relationships are provided, along with experimental and simulation results from a low power prototype converter.
