The eight great odd painters of Yang Zhou belong to an active painting school in Yang Zhou in middle Qing dynasty.Most of these painters came from poor families,with hard and rough life experience,selling their paintings for a living.They unanimously placed great emphasis on the expressions of individuality in painting arts,yearning for ingenuity and initialism,good at freehand brushwork in Chinese ink and wash and delivering spirit of the real world in terms of simple and flying touches of painting techniques.fresh and wild painting styles,and it is right their"oddness"that represents their"originality".A deeper research therefore is made in this article into the characteristics and contributing factors of their unusual painting sysles.
