Kuratorns stöd till barn i sorg, vid en förälders död

The purpose of the study is to explore, to understand which forms of support curators in health care uses, in meetings with children in mourning for a parent's death. The methodology for the study is qualitative, with interviews of six curators in the health sector, five of whom work in hospitals, in some way with palliative care, and child and youth health. The interviews were conducted in three medium-sized cities, in southern Sweden. The study's approach is hermeneutic. The theory used in the study is the analysis part, Cullberg's theory of crisis.The study's interview results from the analysis, in terms of the types of support curators in health care uses, in meetings with children in mourning for a parent's death, is that the curator support mainly comprised of a preventive and indirect support, in form of conversation, by parents to children. The indirect aid is more common when it comes to the younger children. In palliative care, in hospitals, given the indirect aid usually through parents of children before death occurs, both to the parent who is sick and the surviving parent. Child and adolescent health curators are also working on preventive indirect support in the form of conversation, through the parents of children. Interview results also show that all curators support given directly to the child, but to a lesser extent. The aid is given when the individual, which is more common if the child is older, or with both child and parent. Curator sometimes use tools, to facilitate communication with the child, such as books, toys, walking or a coffee together.The study shows that the curators are trying to prevent a too severe grief reaction by the preventive approach, which then often becomes an indirect subsidy through the parent to the child. The indirect aid given to grief not be encapsulated, but also that they will manage to go on and continue his contact with life, which is also what Cullberg (2006) writes about.
