Review of an FCC computer control project

A distributed process control system with advanced control was installed at the Sohio Oil Co. Lima, Ohio refinery on the FCC and Delayed Coking units in 1985. Advanced control applications were commissioned using the new control system in 1986. This paper focuses on the FCC unit and describes the design, implementation and commissioning of its advanced control applications. Operating experience is also discussed.
