Dynamics of Urban Ethnic Minorities Distribution in China

This chapter begins with an exploration of the Chinese ethno-regional context, then contextualizes the distribution of ethnic minorities in cities by region and administrative level. It goes on to examine the variations in minority populations per city throughout the years, analyzing the impact urbanization had on ethnic minorities. Based on the Standard Deviational Ellipse (SDE) results, this chapter concludes that the changes experienced by all cities is the result of two major pulling powers from the southeastern coastal area and Northwestern China, as well as one inward shrinking force in Northeastern China.
