Abstract 14148: The AHA Life Simple 7: An Assessment Using the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System 2011-2015

Introduction: The AHA designed “Life’s Simple 7” (LS7) to educate the public on seven modifiable aspects of CVD risk. We leveraged existing data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to evaluate the percentage of people meeting these goals around the United States. Methods: The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is a state-based surveillance system operated by state health departments in collaboration with the CDC. The LS7 components are managing blood pressure, controlling cholesterol, reducing blood sugar, getting active, eating better, weight control, and smoking cessation/prevention. Data elements from the BRFSS can be used to estimate the percentage of people meeting the respective lifestyle targets by state.
