Study on Antimicrobial Activity in Vitro of Extract from Salviae miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma

2010
Objective To study the antimicrobial activity in vitro of the extract from Salviae miltiorrhizae Ratix et Rhizoma. Methods The minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of the extract was determined by the constant broth dilution method,in order to investigate the antimicrobial activity in vitro. The activities of extracts extracted with different extraction methods, different sterilization methods,or at different pH against Staphylococcus aureus were determined by the cylinder-plate method. Results The ethanolic extracts from Salviae miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma had antimicrobial activities against Escherichia coli,S.aureus,Bacillus subtilis,Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Bacillus pumilus, but no inhibitory effect on Blastomyces albicans. The MICs of 95 % ethanolic extract were 20,20,40,80,80 mg/mL,respectively,which showed that the ethanolic extract had stronger activities against E.coil and S.aureus.There was no difference in antimicrobial activity of ethanolic extracts extracted with different sterilization methods or at different pH against S.aureus.Conclusion The extract from Salviae miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma has antimicrobial activity in vitro.
