Tolerance and efficacy of anthelmintics Prazinon(r) and Prazinon(r) plus in dogs experimentally invaded with Echinococcus granulosus.

2003
The aim of the study was to evaluate the tolerance and efficacy of anthelmintics PRAZINON(r)(praziquantel)injection solution and PRAZINON(r) PLUS(praziquantel, pyrantel pamoate, febantel)tablets against Echinococcus granulosus in experimentally infected dogs. In order to invade the Beagles were orally administrated approximately 40000 viable protoscolexes originated from sheep cysts. The drug was injected s/c, (PRAZINON) and p/o (PRAZINON PLUS) four weeks after the invasion. A local reaction occurred at the injection site after s/c and i/m administration of PRAZINON solution for injection which regressed within 4-5 days. A systemic acute phase inflammatory response did not occur in dogs after p/o, s/c or i/m administration of the tested antihelmintics. According to obtained results it can be said that single treatment had 100% efficacy when the drug was administered either parenterally or orally.
