Fields of application and features of laying of light color paving clinker under dynamic load conditions

2019
The paper provides the results of studies on the causes of the formation of brownish taint on clinker brick of light color in the process of its operation and the impact of dynamic load. In the process of work, clinker brick tests were carried out; its mineralogical composition and the nature of its changing color, as well as the materials of the base during brick laying were studied. It is established that two factors were the causes of taint formation. First, the area on which the clinker brick was laid was characterized by the level of mineralized groundwater close to the surface and evaporation of moisture from the surface prevailed over its absorption by soil in the warm season. I.e., all dissolved in the ground water salts migrated to the surface of the bricks through well permeable sandy joints between the bricks. Second, the base under the bricks contained ferruginous minerals, and in particular hematite, which has undergone hydration with the formation of iron hydroxides and reacted with the sulfates of groundwater with the formation of ferrous sulfates. This is confirmed by the amount of sulfur on tainted areas and the presence of a film similar to crystallohydrate. The analysis of the conducted researches allowed us to develop recommendations for works on clinker brick paving of various sites, which are exposed to constant dynamic loadings, to develop actions for stain elimination, and to protect the reputation of light color brick.
