A Monitoring Information Management System for Tunnel Construction

A monitoring information management system for tunnel construction is presented in this paper. The system differentiates from traditional monitoring information management systems in several aspects. First, the system is web-based, so that monitoring data can be retrieved at anytime and anywhere through the Internet. Second, monitoring data can be acquired and transmitted into the system automatically by employing the latest instrumentation and data transmission technology. Third, geological information, construction environment and construction parameters are fully integrated into the system. Finally, the construction and monitoring data are presented in both 2D and 3D views. As a result, the system enables intuitive, comprehensive and fast understanding of construction and monitoring information for engineers and decision makers. An application of the proposed system to the construction of an electrical cable tunnel project is presented.
