Femoralnerve blockforanalgesia in fractures ofthefemoralneck

SUMMARY Thepurpose ofthisstudy was toinvestigate theefficacy offemoral nerve blocks in patients withfractures oftheneckofthefemur. Thirty-six patients withfemoral neck fractures attending theaccident department over athree monthperiod received femoral blocks fromone ofthetwo authors. The effect oftheblockwas assessed both subjectively andobjectively. Thirty patients reported a worthwhile reduction inpain following theprocedure andthis was supported byobjective blockade in29.Inallsix patients whoreported no benefit, theblock failed objectively. Therewere no complications oftheprocedure.
