Glasses from the system AgI-Ag2O-TeO2.B2O3

2000
New glasses in the quaternary system AgI-Ag 2 O-TeO 2 .B 2 O 3 have been synthesised by rapid quenching from glass melts. The ratio between B 2 O 3 and TeO 2 was kept constant, B 2 O 3 :TeO 2 =1. Glasses were obtained with up to 50 mol% AgI. Above this value, β/γ-AgI crystallised in the amorphous matrix. It is seen from the infrared spectra that addition of Ag 2 O and AgI modify the glass structure. The highest ionic conductivity is reached at 50 mol% AgI (2×10 -4 S/cm) and the electron conductivity is below 10 -8 S/cm for all the glasses.
