A convenient access to iodo/fluoro-alkylquinoline by halogenation of alkylquinolines with I2/AgF2 via benzylic C(sp3)-H functionalization and halide exchange

Halogenations of substituted 2-alkylquinoline with I2/AgF2 via benzylic C(sp3)-H bond activation and halide exchange have been developed. These processes provide facile strategies to construct C-I/C-F bonds and expand the method of fluorination of 2-alkylquinolines through C(sp3)-H bond functionalization. These transformations exhibit well tolerance of functional groups and generate the desired products in moderate to good yields.
