A Review of Preoperative Planning Technologies for Spinal Deformity Correction

Abstract Multiple pre-operative planning software systems are available to surgeons performing spinal deformity correction. The systems boast accurate and efficient assessments of spinal alignment parameters, and allow surgeons to template corrective instrumentation and osteotomies. Here, we review several systems that are capable of interfacing with imaging databases, assessing spinal alignment, and templating for surgery. Additionally we will touch on further extensions of these systems including the creation of 3D printed models, pedicle screw guiders, osteotomy guiders, and custom made 3D implants. Likely the systems mentioned here are the first of many in a new era of digitally enhanced surgical techniques.
