Research of clinical relevance of NSE, S100B and MBP in serum with cerebral infarction

2009
Objective To research the value of NSE,S100B and MBP concentration on predic-tion of severity of illness in patients with cerebral infarction. Methods The serum concentrations of NSE, S100B and MBP were measured within 72 hours after the injury in 62 cases of patients with cerebral infarction, then making a comparative analysis by neurologic impairment score and infarct volume. Re-suits The serum concentration of NSE,S100B and MBP after the injury in 62 patients with cerebral in-farction increased compared with those in the normal control group obviously. Moreover, there exists sig-nificant differences in the serum concentration of NSE,S100B and MBP between different groups that pa-tients were in different neurologic impairment score. To assess the severity of illness by serum concentra-tions of NSE 20 μg/L, S100B 1.0 μg/L and MBP 8.0 μg/L after 72 hours of cerebral infarction. Speci-ficity of NSE was 70.00%, sensitivity was 70.27% ; Specificity of S100B was 75.00%, sensitivity was 75.68% ; Specificity of MBP was 80.00%, sensitivity was 64.86%. In addition, the greater volume of cerebral infarction, the higher serum concentrations of NSE, S100B, MBP. Conclusions NSE, S100B and MBP may play important roles in predicting severity of illness in the patients with cerebral infarction. Key words: NSE;  S100B;  MBP;  Cerebral infarction;  Neurologic impairment score
