Diagnostic Performances of Squat Test for Meniscal Tear Detection Compare to Mc Murray Test and Apley Test

2010
Thirty two patient aged 17 to 36 years old who were scheduled for surgery were interviewed for their knee injury histories and were examined with Mc Murray test, Apley test and “Squat test” to detect meniscal injury. Diagnostic performances of this clinical tests were calculated and compared with the arthroscopic findings. Mc Murray test had highest sensitivity (73.9%) for detection of meniscal tear follow by Squat and Apley tests with the sensitivity of 69.6% and 52.2% respectively. All tests had 100% specificity. The combination of Mc Murray and Squat tests increased the diagnostic sensitivity to 86.9%. Thus, squat test can be used combined with Mc Murray test better screening for diagnosis of torn meniscus.
