The challenge of Mayors Adapt: the answers expected from the Italian reality. On 16 th April 2013, the European Commission adopted the EU Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change, which aims to enhance the level of preparedness and ability to respond to the impacts of climate change. Member States will have to adopt the National Strategy by identifying priorities for action at both national and local level by supporting the city on the way to their plan adaptation. Waiting for the National Strategy cities must act as the main drivers of climate change; and they are doing making plans and projects, ad hering to the Mayors Adapt and combining their experiences in the national network “Cities and climate” to promote cultural change needed to manage areas that are the most vulnerable environments to the effects of climate change.
