Decomposition of gamma or energy dispersive X-ray spectra with an iteration method

A method suitable for decomposing multicomponent spectra-including overlapping peaks-is introduced. The method is based on probability theory and can be used with any personal computer. The number of overlapping peaks is not limited. It is especially advantageous when the statistical spread is high and curve fitting is rather inaccurate.
