Composite particle and manufacturing method therefor

Provided are a composite particle having adequate dispersing properties in a dispersion medium, and a manufacturing method for composite particles that can more reliably obtain this composite particle. The composite particle includes a phosphor particle and a coating layer that is formed on at least part of the surface of the aforementioned phosphor particle and includes a metallic oxide, and fulfills the conditions of a formula (1). (1) 0.53 ≦ (ρ／ρ 0 ) In the formula (1), ρ indicates the measurement value of the bulk density of the aforementioned composite particle on the basis of a prescribed measurement method in JIS-R-1628, and ρ 0 indicates the measurement value of the true density of the aforementioned composite particle on the basis of a dry density measurement method using a gas displacement technique.
