The article describes the experience of the children's dentistry department in SSMA in building the students skills in orthodontics in the state of dramatic reduction of the patients on student admission. Professional competence of students is formed gradually. In the 8th 9th semesters the phantom subjects of intervention taken as control and diagnostic models of dentition made of plaster, plastic, superplaster are used. Repeated execution of various manipulations on the simulators leads to the formation of stable motor responses, that is practical skills, which allows to avoid errors and complications during reception of patients in the 10th semester at most.
