Treatment of severe crush syndrome caused by earthquake: one case report

Objective To discuss the diagnosis and treatment of severe crash syndrome caused by earthquake. Methods A review was conducted of one patient with crush syndrome following the 5.12Wenchuan earthquake. The roles of systematic nutritional support, active local wound treatment and hemodialysis on the recovery of the patient were observed. Results The active medical intervention led to improved functions of the heart and kidneys and removal of the necrotic tissue which facilitated the following repair of the wounds. Conclusion Removal of necrotic tissue, minimizing toxic absorption and complementary artificial blood dialysis can ensure successful treatment of the crush syndrome patients following earthquake.
