THE FRIES REARRANGEMENT OF BZ-BENZOYLOXYBENZOFURAN DERIVATIVES AND THE SYNTHESIS OF THE FURO DERIVATIVES OF 4-PHENYL-2H-CHROMEN-2-ONE

The Fries rearrangement of 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-benzoyloxy-2,3-dimethylbenzofurans gave exclusively or mainly the corresponding o-hydroxy ketones, which were converted to the dimethylfuro derivatives of 4-phenyl-2H-chromen-2-one.
