DEM Data Visualization and Application to Earthquake Research

The strong data-managing,processing and spatial analysis functions of the ArcGIS 9.3 software foundation platform was used to build the geographic database of Xiamen,and contours were used to generate the digital elevation model(DEM) of it.By superposing the earthquake data and active faults on DEM,we concluded that the seismicity of high-elevation areas was comparatively more than low-elevation ones,and in texture messy zone there was often distribution or intersection of active faults,which were closely related to earthquake occurrence.The conclusion shows that DEM is practical and effective in earthquake researches.
