Improvement in the Characteristics of Ex-Situ Tape With SiC Addition

2007
The utilization of powder obtained from the core of in-situ tape improves the high magnetic field performance of Fe-sheathed tape fabricated via an ex-situ powder-in-tube (PIT) technique. This work reveals a further improvement by means of the addition of SiC nano particle. The highest at 4.2 K of the tape have a values of ( at 12 T) and ( at 10 T) for the tape with 10 mol% SiC post-an- nealed at 700 . These values are believed to be the highest known values of ex-situ tape. However, they were lower than the values of in-situ tape with 10 mol% SiC ( at 12 T and : at 10 T). The reason for the poorer performance of the ex-situ tape is thought to be due to a lower and poorer grain connectivity.
