Problems existing in "the 3-manuscript-review system" of scientific medical journals
2012
ObjctrtiveTo investigate problems that exist in "the 3-manuscript-review system" of scientific medical journals. METHODS:Related papers that were found to have problems in the process of "the 3-manuscript-review"(initial review or reading by editors, subject review by related specialists and final review by editor-in-chief) were sought out through the investigation of the editorial department and in-depth inquiry of other scientific medical journals, and then related problems were summed up and analyzed. RESULTS:Problems did exist in the current "3-manuscript-review system" of medical journals. For instance, the responsibilities of initial review by editors were unclear;the quality of subject review by related specialists was varied or not uniform;the knowledge of the editor-in-chief was not wide enough to cover all medical professions or did not have enough time or energy to guarantee strictly the quality of all the papers. CONCLUSION:The current "the 3-manuscript-review system" do have problems, however,if right approaches are taken, all the existing problems could be reduced or eliminated.
