Temperature and radiation intensity evaluations of foils heated by focused electron beams

1979
The use of intense electron beams for ignition of pulsed thermonuclear reaction necessitates the investigations of interaction of beams having current densities of order 10 7 A/cm 2 and more, with metal foils. The present work is an extension of experiments on interaction of beams with thin foils having been started on Triton and Angara-1 [1, 2]. The most essential characteristics of the interaction are temperature and radiation power of plasma generated. In the present paper the methods and some results of determining the values mentioned by measuring the radiation intensity of anode foil plasmas, in the range of 10-1000 A, are described.
