The invention relates to a device for the production of high-melting glasses or refractory glass-ceramics, having a vessel for containing a glass melt and a container which receives the vessel, said vessel having a tubular outlet. The device is characterized according to the invention is characterized in that the vessel and a first portion of the tubular outlet of iridium or a high-iridium-containing material is formed, wherein the container is adapted to receive the vessel and the first section of the tubular outlet under a protective gas atmosphere. The invention further relates to a corresponding method. The glass melt is formed in a batch operation to form a molded body. By choosing the material of serving as a melting pot vessel high temperatures, the glasses or glass ceramics can be realized according to the invention, with a much higher spectral transmission in the visible wavelength range. By using an inert protective gas unwanted oxide formation of the vessel and the tubular outlet can be prevented. the glass is preferably used as the glass transition for producing a connection between types of glass having significantly different coefficients of thermal expansion.
